Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Shaheedul Rehman, former president of Sagardighi Youth Congress, was allegedly dragged away by police from his house in Sagardighi, Murshidabad, causing unrest among CPI(M) and Congress workers who gheraoed the police station in protest. Congress sources claimed that the police arrived late on Friday night, detaining Shaheedul without providing a reason.
Initially informed about his detention, the leaders were later notified about his arrest, resulting in the gathering of hundreds of CPI(M) and Congress supporters outside the police station since Saturday morning.
Baron Biswas, the joint candidate of the CPI(M) and Congress, accused Trinamool of using police to win the upcoming Panchayat elections, targeting opposition leaders with significant support bases. He affirmed that such attempts would not be allowed to succeed.
In response, Trinamool MP Khalilur Rahman stated that the police's role was to uphold law and order, and the party had no part in Shaheedul's arrest.
